PlainSight

Capstone at Netbridge, 2026

Security alerts were spread across three vendor consoles. For my capstone, I built a Wazuh dashboard with a local Ollama assistant and PDF reporting.

The client data had to stay on the network. I used SQLite to share state between the dashboard and background triage; straightforward counts use database queries without calling the model.

I migrated hundreds of Word and PDF files into BookStack using Python, Node.js and the REST API.

The wiki stayed internal. Nightly HTML and PDF exports provided the SharePoint fallback the team needed.

Home lab

Docker Compose services and Pi-hole DNS support my home network. After a storage migration went wrong, version-controlled configs became essential to rebuilding the containers.

My rule for the lab: I should be able to rebuild the environment from the repo in under an hour.

Self-hosted portfolio

This site runs on a Linux mini PC at home. Cloudflare Tunnel publishes it through an outbound connection, so the website needs no inbound ports on the router.

I manage the HTML, CSS and JavaScript frontend, the server and the deployment.

WireGuard remote access

The VPN interface was up, but no traffic passed. I traced two faults: NAT rules pointed to the wrong interface, and the client’s public key had a one-character mismatch.

With both corrected, I could SSH to the home server over the tunnel. The case study walks through the checks that found them.

Experience

I prefer boring, maintainable setups over clever ones.

I moved into network operations after working on infrastructure installations. That field experience helps me connect what a monitoring tool shows with what might be happening on site.

Current role

I work in a 24/7 ISP environment in Auckland, monitoring networks, investigating connectivity issues and supporting incident response and service restoration alongside network engineers.

Network Analyst, Netbridge

Previous role

I worked on infrastructure installation, switching, VLANs, firewalls, wireless and voice systems. I also handled procurement, supplier follow-up and project coordination.

AI tools & local models

Alongside networking, I work with ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek and Copilot, as well as local models through Ollama.

I’m continuing to build my experience towards network engineering, with the home lab as a place to try things out and work through the failures.
